# .uk domains

> United Kingdom country-code TLD at the second level (example.uk). Run by Nominet. Free transfer in.

`.uk` is the second-level UK domain space, available since 2014 alongside the older `.co.uk`. [Nominet](https://www.nominet.uk/) runs both. The shorter `.uk` was originally reserved to existing `.co.uk` holders for a transition window; that window closed in 2019, so anyone can now register a fresh `.uk`.

## Registry policy

## Eligibility

Open. Nominet requires an accurate registrant address, which can be anywhere in the world.

## Features

* **WHOIS privacy.** Available for individuals (Nominet allows opting out of address publication). Trade names always publish.
* **DNSSEC.** Supported.
* **IDN.** Limited. Nominet supports a defined set of European IDN characters.
* **Auth (EPP) code.** Nominet uses an "IPS Tag" model. The auth code is the IPS tag of the gaining registrar; we issue it on request.
* **Free transfer in.** No transfer fee.
