# .it domains

> Italy's country-code TLD, run by NIC.it. Open to EU/EEA residents and citizens.

`.it` is Italy's country-code TLD, operated by [NIC.it](https://www.nic.it/) at the IIT-CNR research institute in Pisa. Eligibility is open to EU citizens and EU/EEA residents, as well as residents of San Marino, Vatican City, and Switzerland.

## Registry policy

## Eligibility

`.it` accepts:

* **Citizens** of an EU or EEA member state.
* **Residents** of an EU or EEA member state.
* **Organisations** established in the EU, EEA, San Marino, Vatican City, or Switzerland.

NIC.it can audit the data and suspend domains where eligibility doesn't hold.

## Features

* **WHOIS privacy.** Limited. NIC.it publishes name, address, and email for organisations; natural persons may opt out of address publication.
* **DNSSEC.** Supported.
* **IDN.** Supported (Italian diacritics, plus a defined set of European characters).
* **Auth (EPP) code.** NIC.it calls it AuthInfo. Issued instantly from the [domain panel](/domains/management/panel).

## Things to know

NIC.it sometimes rejects an inbound transfer if the registrant's contact email is unreachable. Confirm the email on file works before starting a transfer.
