# .com domains

> Verisign-run generic top-level domain. The largest TLD by a wide margin, no eligibility checks, supports the full ICANN feature set.

`.com` is the original generic top-level domain. Verisign runs the registry under contract with ICANN. Anyone can register, and over 150 million names are already in use, so creative or compound spellings are normal at this point.

## Registry policy

Open. No residency, business, or trademark requirement. Contact details are validated for syntax only.

* **IDN.** Supported. Internationalised names accepted in punycode form.

* **Multi-year registration.** Register up to 10 years at once.
